Continuous Job Description Summary Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a Director of Information Technology Services - Applications Services.
The Director of Information Technology Services - Applications Services is a crucial management leadership position responsible for overseeing the selection, implementation, and maintenance of administrative software that serves the essential business functions of the College.
This position provides expert guidance, direction, and leadership for IT strategic planning, long-term needs, execution, and implementation of enterprise IT systems in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the College.
The IT Director is responsible for the management, administration development, and support for the Colleague ERP system and its supporting systems.
In addition, this position oversees the creation and maintenance of the College's accessibility functions.
The IT Director oversees multiple productions, test, and development environments involving application installations, software upgrades, migrations, performance monitoring, tuning, and system replication.
The IT Director researches a variety of internal customer requests and will be responsible for enhancements, changes, and project management for business-related technology implementations.
Core Competencies and Qualifications The IT Director position typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Computer Systems/Science, or related field, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience managing IT software implementation projects and an IT team.

Provides expert guidance, direction, and leadership regarding the College's selection and use of technologies.
Leads the IT organization's functions, determines long-term needs, and pursues purchases and contracts that will aid in accomplishing business objectives.

Leadership - Develops strategic plans to anticipate future resource needs and accurately identifies, tracks, and prioritizes existing resource needs; monitors resource availability and makes contingency plans to ensure the availability of adequate resources in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

Data Systems - Knowledge of computer hardware and software development and systems as they apply to the conception, specification, analysis, planning, development, installation, test, modification, and use of data handling and computing systems.
Data Management - Knowledge of data management principles, procedures, and tools, such as modeling techniques, data backup, data recovery, data dictionaries, data warehousing, data mining, data archiving, and data standardization processes.
Information Resources Strategy and Planning - Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of information technology (IT) assessment, planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation, such as IT baseline assessment, functional analysis, contingency planning, and disaster recovery.
Budget Administration -Knowledge of budget administration and analysis, including preparing, justifying, reporting on, and executing the budget; and the relationships among program, budget, accounting, and reporting systems.

Applied Technical Skills Ten years or more of relevant experience including five years of progressively responsible management/leadership/supervisory experience of computer systems management, information technology, systems analysis and design, ERP systems implementation and upgrades, end-user support systems, and business intelligence reporting systems required.
Ten or more years of experience in higher education.
Advanced knowledge of systems analysis and administrative IT systems (ERP); demonstrated proficiency in the incorporation of multiple information systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Director of Information Technology Services - Applications Services will:
Be responsible for the daily operations of the Applications Services areas as well as developing the strategic direction of the area.
This is a hands-on managerial role requiring working side-by-side with staff to administer ITS operations.
Collaborate with the Director of Network and Infrastructure to find innovative technology solutions and ensure that all systems work effectively and efficiently.
Work with the technical staff to develop innovative information technologies and develops plans to implement the technologies.
Integrate the tactical goals of Application Services with the overall goals of ITS in support of the overall mission of Henry Ford College.
Evaluate existing technologies and research new technologies.
Supervise professional and administrative staff and oversee the work of consultants.
Manage technology operations, including the College's ERP system, database, imaging, reporting, web applications development, and user services and support.
Work with the Vice President of Financial, Facility, IT & Auxiliary Services to develop the departmental budget and administration of the approved budget, including maintenance of equipment and supplies inventory and budgetary control.
Work with individual users to determine needs, offer creative and innovative solutions, develop detailed project specifications, and lead teams to build the systems required to support the College's business environment.
Provide support and be the key contact between the College and contracted technical support personnel in this area.
Work closely with the computer service provider to ensure availability and appropriateness of contracted resources, including systems upgrades and other contract compliance issues.
Provide direct, front-line supervision of assigned ITS staff, contract employees, and co-op students supporting the institutional software systems, including developing work schedules and project assignments, training, staff development, and custom programming.
Direct and work with the College's Web Architect to plot the direction of the College's web-based infrastructure and provide support and guidance in achieving web infrastructure goals.
Work cooperatively with users across all campuses.
Keep abreast of current and emerging technologies that directly impact upon the area of responsibility and undergo periodic training as deemed necessary by the Vice President of Strategy and Information Serve as primary contact with all vendors related to the support and maintenance of the institution's ERP system and related software, including participation with the software User's Group.
Coordinate activities with vendors and outside consultants to provide support for Colleague system integration.
Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about Colleague.
Oversee user accounts application security classes access level setup for users.
Track, troubleshoot, and resolve Colleague software and interface issues, including working directly with end-users and IT staff.
Manage issues regarding single sign-on account access.
Plan and manage the implementation and support of new modules and features of Colleague.
Coordinate the implementation of new interfaces, migrations, vendor patches, year-end regulatory patches, and system upgrades.
Provide documentation for the ERP system and database patching processes, including gathering, distributing, and documenting all information on patch impact, recommending patches to apply, and scheduling patch applications.
Work with server administrators regarding desired enhancements to the Colleague system, including providing technical expertise and recommendations for setup and configuration.
Ensure that complete documentation of all systems, applications, security, and network configurations is maintained and current.
Evaluate and recommend the purchase of hardware, software, and technical services.
Assist in the creation of work plans and planning documents.
Document customized processes, procedures, and code in support of applications.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
