Continuous DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK This position is responsible for reviewing various building plans to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances.
Responsibilities may include guiding staff in interpreting building codes; reviewing plans and specifications; and coordinating plan review with other departments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.
Reviews various building plans and specifications for compliance with public health, safety, and other building codes and ordinances; coordinates meetings with individuals to recommend building plan changes to maintain compliance with codes and ordinances.
Coordinates building plan review with related departments to ensure timely completion of building projects.
Prepares reports outlining building plan review findings and recommendations; maintains plan review records to ensure accuracy.
Responds to various inquiries from customers and staff, including:
assisting staff in interpreting building codes; assisting customers in preparing applications for building permits; and performing related tasks.
Oversees Building Board of Appeals agenda Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS KNOWLEDGE:
Federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; Building codes and ordinances; Methods of preparing reports; Customer service principles; Recordkeeping principles; Building plan requirements.
SKILLS:
Reviewing building plans for compliance with codes and ordinances; Preparing reports; Providing customer service; Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require:
reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field and 2 years of related experience; or, Associate's degree and 3 years of related experience; or, all required certification(s) and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Act 407 Registration Valid State of Michigan driver's License PARTS AND WEIGHTS OF THE EXAMINATION:
